One of the traits that set our Diablos apart from employees at other companies is our passion for giving back to our community, not only monetarily, but also by giving our time. For the past couple of months we’ve had the pleasure of working with two very special programs, Project Angel Heart and Bessie’s Hope.
Project Angel Heart is an organization that prepares and delivers nutritious meals to Coloradans with life-threatening illnesses. Diablos and our families have decorated delivery bags, reoccuringly delivered food to the clients, donated money, and purchased fundraising pies. Two of us (Mackenzie and Suz) even became Project Angel Heart Ambassadors for “Dining Out For Life”, helping thousands of diners and more than 250 Denver and Boulder-area restaurants raise an estimated $300,000 to support the home-delivered meal program.
Bessie’s Hope is a group social in which we spend time with some special Seniors, or as we like to refer to them, our elders! Together we sing, dance, tell stories, play games, reminisce and laugh. Two of our very talented team members even spontaneously performed solos for the group. Seong had the crowd clapping and singing along as he sang and played on the guitar his rendition of Johnny Cash, and Gordon serenaded the group with acapella Frank Sinatra. Both of them definitely made the ladies in the room blush and swoon.
Our next group volunteer activity will be “Dare to Play Football Camp”—a day to benefit the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. At the Dare to Play Football Camp, individuals with Down syndrome ages 8 and up are welcome to join and learn core touch football skills and team-building activities from professional, college and high school football players. Each camper is paired with a high school Pal football player for one-on-one attention, assistance and fun. This event is sure to bring many smiles for all of us involved.
